Dan Overpeck is a five-time and defending Texas State Champion tomahawk thrower. Recently, he added the title of New Mexico State Aggregate Champion to his list of accomplishments. The accomplishment he is most proud of, however, is the number of folks he has showed how to throw who have gone on to become successful competitors in our sport.
One such example is his daughter Katy, who has won several Texas State Championships of her own, including a stretch where she won three straight events in both the tomahawk and the knife! Another example is Katy’s husband John Goldsmith. While having competed in only a handful of events, John has always finished strongly and recently (finally) defeated his father in law to become the New Mexico State Tomahawk Champion for 2008 as well as the 2008 SWNTKC Tomahawk Champ.
We are looking forward to the 2009 Southwestern National Tomahawk and Knife Championship and we hope to see all of you again this year!
